From Snow Melt to Met Office Forecasting...

With rapid snow melt and very heavy rain at times over the last few days, the little stream that usually flows through the woodland at the bottom of our road is today pretty much ready to overflow in many places. Thankfully its all in a dip and would never pose a risk to homes etc as its too far away and low for that but in about two days its...

Living In The Countryside.

Some people would say that living in the country has its drawbacks, but it also has its benefits. I have been privileged to have lived in the “sticks” for most of my adult life and have seen, up close most of our natural wildlife, including, deer, badgers, foxes, rabbits, hares, red and grey squirrels‘. Since moving to Lincolnshire we have had...

On Friday I visited Lancaster to take a look around, a few pics from Lancaster...
Lancaster Castle, which, to my understanding, is used as a Crown Court as well as for tours? Well that might explain the vast amount of CCTV cameras and barbed wires lining the turrets!

Another Cook-Out and Other Fun

Yesterday we had another cook-out. Amongst the items cooked today were the usual jacket potatoes, bacon, sausage and burgers, but also a stir fry, bananas and strawberries and chocolate. And the usual marshmallows to finish of course.

Hot Air Balloons

This is a memory from about 16 years ago and is based on what I remember and reports from various sources.
Hot air balloons were a regular summer sight here at Swanton Farm. They often took off from Broome Park, which is only a couple of miles North of here. For several years we’d watched dozens of them pass over on cross channel balloon...

A Cloud That Does Not Move

One of my favourite typs of cloud is the lenticular or as I like to call the standing wave cloud. On a breezy day to the leaward side of mountains or a range of high hills if your lucky you will see a smooth looking cloud at eight to ten thousand feet (possibly higher). The reason the cloud does not move is on the upwind side moist air has been...

Causes of heatwaves in the UK

Recently I've been thinking ahead to summer, and I think this may have something to do with the mild spell which is starting. I've also been wondering what the summer will hold, and whether it will finally deliver a nice hot spell which I've been waiting for. Because of this I decided to write a blog entry about what causes them, and which set-ups...

Hitching a lift...

Many moons ago when I was a young soldier in Germany, we were sitting round a campfire deep in the woods on a dark autumn night, swapping tales and drinking beer.

As the fire crackled, some of the guys settled down to grab a kip close to the fire as it had been a long hard days patroling.

there had been a few yarns about the usual subjects,...

When I was younger I loved cars and bikes (still do) and spent a lot of my hard earned on them one way or another, so I thought I would go down memory lane *~~wavy lines~~*
