There are 3 ways to present an image in a post or a topic, by uploading the image directly to the forum

If you just upload the image it will be presented like this (see below).
You can click on the image to view it full size

Or you can add it as a thumbnail once you have uploaded a file

Of course clicking the image will view it full size again.

The advantage with the above methods is that it allows for the image to load quickly when viewed - useful if viewing on a mobile device.
Both methods will use the lightbox when viewing the images in the post.

The other way is to include the full image, once you have uploaded a file.

This makes it nice and big, but it could be a problem for mobile viewing. It also doesn't present the image using lightbox and increases scroll. This would be the least preferred option, but may be useful in certain presentations, such as if your graphic is small to start off with, like this example.

This wee fella here, circled in red

allows for images to be used from a different web address. The problem with this is that if that image gets moved/replaced/deleted then so does the picture in the post.
It also uses the host sites bandwidth, so if they discover it and don't like it they can complain or as I have seen in some instances, it gets changed - either to a message or more usually porn. As you can see, its not therefore the preferred option.

If you accidentally post a full size image that is too big, you can reduce it back to a small thumbnail if you edit your post within 5 minutes

to do that you would change

    Code:
    [attach=full]7889[/attach]
    to
    Code:
    [attach]7889[/attach]
please note: the number varies for each image, so it will be different on your posts

Grant, are there any limits to the size of individual images and/or the overall number of images or memory used?
