Software now updated to Cumulus which I find much more reliable than Easyweather.

I've just been reading through files here. I am just getting around to sorting out which station would suit best, but am now a bit confused?? I was thinking of buying a La Crosse 2350 as it seemed to check all the boxes, although I'm not to sure about the software. I would appreciate any help or comments on choice of station and possible software options.

    Hi
The la crosse 2350 is a very good bit of kit for the price. The software bundled with it is Heavy Weather and to be honest isn't great. However, there is an alternative FREE (donations welcomed of course) program called Cumulus which is supported here an at SandaySoft too which is FAR FAR better than Heavy Weather and a heck of a lot more stable too. Cumulus works well with the 2350 and the 2300.

Many thanks for the info, I shall bow to experience. As you say the price is very good on this unit which I think will suit my needs. The software suggested also sounds too good to be true, as always with freeware, the donation follows.

Now have the LC2350 up and running. Still needs some fine tuning as to position of hygrometer/thermometer.

    Wind speed and direction
    Outdoor temperature and humidity
    Indoor temperature and humidity
    Barometric pressure
    Rainfall

    Using Cumulus software.

In the last month I have made a huge change to my system as my server crashed and burned....I have a backup of my data from the last few years but sadly not usable at the moment, fortunately all my old data is on wunderground so not so bad. So taking the opportunity to "start again" my two year old Vantage Vue is now connected to a mini green pc an ebox4300 which i bought off ebay for a song :). This is fanless and hard disk less and runs on CF cards so makes its very low power. The OS is Ubuntu server which is very light on the system but I had a problem with weather software , I tried to continue with weather display but it just swamped the ebox even the console version made the ebox run with a high load so another solution had to be found. After trying a few alternatives I finally came across weeWX which is written in python. There is no user interface as everything is done on the command line but it creates web pages so that you can view the data. It was easy to install and has proved to be reliable and very stable over the last few weeks so so far so good and the load on the ebox averages to 0.19% excellent. Only downside is there is no five second update but it does update every sixty seconds , I can live with that. So now rebuilding web pages with the usual late nights lots of coffee and frustrations :).

So now system reads as follows

Weather Hardware : Davies Vantage Vue

Server Hardware : Ebox4300 - OS Ubuntu server, Apache, php5

    Weather Software : weeWX
